Garageband Rocks!

I got garageband it is so great. I love it. It is the last day of 2004. A good day for cleaning.

House Hunting

Jennifer and I have been talking about looking for a house so we went out today and looked at some. We decided that we don’t like West Seattle. We like Madison Valley all the way to the Rainier Valley and over to Beacon Hill. It’s a little tricky because for the amount we can spend we can really only afford a fixer in Seattle and there are lots of investors looking for fixers to fix up and sell at a profit. One of the ones we looked at was on Orcas St. and was like 600 sq. ft. of space with vinyl siding over rotting wood and a muddy yard with an old rusty swing-set skeleton in the backyard for $190k. We also found a nice house in Columbia City that was avocado green (the color of house I predict we will buy) and has a weird pile of junk in the backyard for $365k. That one has been on the market since October though. We ran in to Jacqueline on Beacon Hill and she satiated us with tea which was a nice break from the bleak search.

Lots of things going on.

1. I’m getting excited about a movie project.
2. I finished knitting my hat.
3. I traded my Ensoniq for an Oxygen 8 which is more suited toward the Garageband software that is traveling via ups towards me.
4. I also have a few lights for video work that I got off ebay traveling via ups too.
5. I read this great banjo book online that has inspired me.
6. I’m pouring over drawing on the right side of the brain to lift some good lessons from it for teaching next year.

Jennifer and I have worked out some protocol for emotional sharing. The problem was that when we were talking about intense stuff, we would push each others buttons. Now we’ve got a list of rules/guidlines/protocol for sharing and listening. We even came up with an emergency emotional land-mine protocol for when we get upset. It’s on her pc right now, so maybe I’ll post it later if I pull it off of there.

The Korn Jonathan Davis Sock Monkey

A sock monkey made made to look like Jonathan Davis of Korn!

One of the highlights of this holiday season was a gift that Jennifer made for her niece. Her niece loves the band korn… a lot. She wants double eyebrow piercings, dreads, and just basically idolizes the lead singer Jonathan Davis. Well, Jennifer makes sock monkeys so she made one to look like Jonathan Davis. Complete with dreads, eyebrow piercings, and korn embroidered wrist bands. Her niece loved it! Eric took this picture a few days ago and I’ve been patient to put this picture up because I didn’t want to give the secret away! That’s me in the background making a hat out of the extra sock monkey dreads!

Ah Winter Break!

The students have gone home. I love the feeling in a classroom when winter break arrives. The students I have had all cleaned up the room to perfection, and our final project is ready to go be performed at the Seattle Center this weekend. We made planets that will be part of the solstice celebrations. Go check it out on Saturday and Sunday from 2-5ish in the centerhouse and then around 4ish to the fountain where our planet lanterns will revolve around the sun which is the fountain.

Ramblings

I’ve posted more than 100 entries now. I’m a little proud of that. What I have on my mind right now is that I have a lot of correcting to do and I need to finish up some chinese lanterns for a solstice project.

I’m also reading a good book called “Carlucci” which is a scifi detective book set in 2200 San Francisco. I’ve been staying up late reading it.

I’ve only been at this teaching job for two weeks, but I am really looking forward to winter break so that I can stay up even later reading and work on more of my own projects.

Making T-Shirts

In response to my question yesterday, Wendy sent me an email with some ideas to have students work on social justice art projects. Intruiging eh?

Yesterday I screen printed shirts all day. Magic Monkey Bob t-shirts will be up on the pinkbunny.org website soon!
