I woke up this morning to the sound of rain. It was so great to hear it really pour. Even though I live in Seattle, and it does rain a lot, it usually just drizzles. This morning it really poured. I got out of bed, set up my mini-disc player and recorded the sound of the rain. After importing it into my computer, it took me a while to figure out how to do a fade in and fade out and then convert the file from minidisc to aiff to mp3 and then upload it to the internet archive.

Link to the rain mp3.

I’m on the brink of putting together a vlog (video log) portion of this weblog. Thanks to Ryanne Hodson and Michael Verdi for putting together a great vlog tutorial over at freevlog.org.

While at ourmedia.org, I found this great video by Josh Leo. Go check it out.

Last night Joe, Martin, and I went and saw the movie Blogumentary by Chuck Olsen. It was very cool to hang out and talk about rss 2.0 feeds with media enclosures. The discussion was great and it helped me gain a little momentum to add a vlog component and make a Seattle Art Museum Alternative Podcast.

kozyndan painting
I am really enamored with the work of Kozyndan who made the above painting which is showing at sixspace down in LA. I love the sweetness and the imagination. I love the way it is realistic and not realistic. I like the colors. I like octopus.

Horse and Flowers

Yesterday I learned how to enlarge color negs and make c-prints. Paul Sundberg, my friend and pro photographer, guided me through the process and taught me how to turn the color dials to achieve white balance and gave good council on the battle against dust. What I ended up with after being in the darkroom for 7 hours was an edition of 5 photo-collages. Each photo-collage is really 4 prints that fit together. I am really happy with how they turned out. Each print is 11×14 and they fit together with some overlapping to be approximately 20×24. The horse’s color is really nice and the daisies are very sweet and I am very happy.

These large prints are for sale, if you’re interested, drop me a note!

I haven’t come up with a framing idea that I’m happy with yet. I need input and ideas! How would you frame it? Please leave a comment with your opinion on the best way to frame this photo-collage.

© Ellen Ziegler, Phosphenes, 2005, paper, (detail)

This is a press picture from Ellen Ziegler’s show up at 4culture in the Smith Tower. She makes these beautiful burned drawings using an old sign-making electrical stylus that sends a charge through the paper to a copper desk. A few of the pieces looked like they were designs for stone circles with astrological allignments all layed out in little burnt holes in the paper.

Maeanna Welti

I was doing a google search for photographs of Chad States. He had a show at Zeitgeist recently and it was great. He’s got a show coming up at 1506 Projects which opens this Saturday. Anyway, so I’m doing a little web sleuthing and come across his work as student work on The Evergreen State College Website. Then I saw Maeanna Welti’s photo and got a strong deja vu sensation before realizing that I had bathed in that tub for a few years when I lived in the trackhouse on 7th in Olympia.
