Bre Pettis Living the DIY Dream

I recently posted to a vlogging group that I don’t think there is much art in vlogs. The response I got varied from person to person. Some people felt that any form of expression is art. Some showed me performance art style videos. I was pointed to some beautiful moments captured and created on video.

I have a very narrow view of art. I teach art and I see a lot of it and most of it, I don’t consider art. For me art has to do with presentness and since I can be very subjective about it, I am. I used to write a lot more about art on my blog, but now I’m kinda obsessed with vlogging, so art has taken a back seat.

I called my friend Daniel. We go see art together a lot. I told him. “I haven’t been making much art, I’ve been to focused on producing video. What should I do, what’s the entry point back into art?”

Daniel is one of two people who I ask for advice because he knows me really well. He said, “Draw. If any art is ready to come out of me, drawing will be an opening for it. Maybe you’ll draw videos,” He said.
