In order to keep my brain intact within my skull, I’m adopting the non-traditional infiltration approach described in this podcast. I’ve called in Erik Beck and Justin Johnson of Indy Mogul for help. - Link

It’s hard to find halloween music that’s creative commons and awesome. This week for the podcast background music, I turned to the Open Source Audio section of the Internet Archive and found Zyzzybalubah’s Fandango Halloween EP. It’s brilliant! - Link Zyzzybalubah is also on myspace! - Link

DIY Vampire Fangs

mp4 | hd-appletv | youtube | blip vimeo hd experiment | itunes | pdf

Have you ever wanted to suck the blood out of an innocent’s neck? If so, then this is the project for you! Eric Skiff came over to help me make vampire fangs! Eric has made these for years using dental acrylic, but recently figured out that acrylic for nails is basically the same material. The great thing about this project is that you’ll learn how to mold three different types of materials! We’re going to make a negative mold of your teeth out of alginate, a positive mold out of your teeth out of plastic, and then the fangs are made out of a two part acrylic that you’d use to make fake fingernails!

Hoeken’s Lab

hoeken's lab

Lately I’ve been spending time over at Hoeken’s lab. I met Hoeken through NYC Resistor and he rents out the balcony of a video studio to work on his reprap project. Reprap is all about making 3D printers with the eventual goal of being able to print out parts for a new printer… a self replicating robot!

Hoeken isn’t an electronics engineer, he’s a programmer, but he’s got the bug and nothing will stop him. He learned how to use Eagle CAD so that he could design breadboards for circuits that he found online. He’s started a non-profit foundation to buy parts in bulk and sell them to folks interested in building their own reprap machine. He’s also opened up his workshop and invited friends to come down and work with him and help out. It’s a blast.

I’m inspired enough that I’m going to make my own reprap machine. His is version 1.0 and mine will be 1.1. There will be lots more posts about this, stay tuned!
