Hoeken’s Lab

hoeken's lab

Lately I’ve been spending time over at Hoeken’s lab. I met Hoeken through NYC Resistor and he rents out the balcony of a video studio to work on his reprap project. Reprap is all about making 3D printers with the eventual goal of being able to print out parts for a new printer… a self replicating robot!

Hoeken isn’t an electronics engineer, he’s a programmer, but he’s got the bug and nothing will stop him. He learned how to use Eagle CAD so that he could design breadboards for circuits that he found online. He’s started a non-profit foundation to buy parts in bulk and sell them to folks interested in building their own reprap machine. He’s also opened up his workshop and invited friends to come down and work with him and help out. It’s a blast.

I’m inspired enough that I’m going to make my own reprap machine. His is version 1.0 and mine will be 1.1. There will be lots more posts about this, stay tuned!
